After so many years of living in LA, it was only by chance I visited
Los Angeles City Hall, to take a "shortcut" back to the courthouse, with a fellow juror.

The building was designed in 1928, and in the 70's was designated an L.A. Historic-Cultural Monument. Until 1964, the City Hall was the tallest building in Los Angeles, and only a few structures had similar decorative towers.
After seeing the beautiful lobby and courtyard, we signed in and took these opulent elevators up to the tower. The trip involved 2-3 elevator changes and a marble staircase.

City Hall has an observation deck, free to the public, with 360 degree views of downtown.

In the foreground of the picture below, that is the beautiful Moderne architectural style L.A. Times Building. I went by one day to see it up close.

This view looks out over Grand Park. Juror parking at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on the upper left, and we walked down to the Court on the lower right. It's about half a mile, but all uphill on the way back.
This side shown below looks down at the Thursday Farmer's market from where we picked up lunch and shopped just before walking through City Hall.

Unfortunately, a brown layer of smog prominently showed from every angle. It had just rained a couple of days earlier and the skies were clear.
